President Petr Pavel received President Jakov Milatović,  at Prague Castle

On 3rd  November 2026,  the President of the Republic, Petr Pavel, received the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, at Prague Castle, who arrived in the Czech Republic for an official visit. Together with the First Lady Eva Pavlova, they also welcomed his spouse, Milena Milatović.

The talks focused on Montenegro’s European integration, security and other possibilities for cooperation, including science and research. The meeting followed up on President Pavel’s trip to Montenegro last year, which has already brought concrete results in Czech-Montenegrin relations.

The Czech Republic has long supported Montenegro’s accession to the European Union. President Pavel stated that its membership would be a strategic investment for the benefit of the entire EU and a positive example for other countries in the Western Balkans. The Czech Republic is ready to share experiences from its own accession process. The current situation in the Western Balkans and regional developments were also discussed.

Both presidents also addressed defense and cybersecurity. On the sidelines of the visit, the transport ministers Ivan Bednárik ( Czech minister), and Radoš Zečević ( Montenegro), signed a memorandum that opens up further opportunities in rail transport, smart mobility and road safety.

An agreement was also signed at Prague Castle between the University of Montenegro and the European research organization ELI ERIC.

At the end of Tuesday’s program, the two presidents jointly opened an exhibition of Czech painter Jaroslav Čermák, whose life and work are closely connected with Montenegro, at the Prague City Gallery.
