Dear colleagues,
We are appealing to you to support Ukrainian journalists who, for more than four years of war, have been risking their lives to bring truthful and independent information directly from the front lines. Many have lost their newsrooms, work equipment, homes, and loved ones, or have been injured. Yet, they continue their work.
The Syndicate of Journalists of the Czech Republic has been assisting Ukrainian colleagues since the start of the Russian invasion. To date, we have provided 1.1 million CZK in support from our own funds. Now, we wish to expand this aid and are turning to you, our members, for help.
On October 9, we launched a public fundraiser titled “So the Truth Does Not Fall Silent: Aid for Ukrainian Journalists” via the Donio charity platform. The proceeds will go to the Solidarity Centers of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, which provide direct assistance to journalists in affected areas.
The funds raised will be used primarily to purchase protective gear, drone detectors, bulletproof vests, generators, and charging stations. They will also assist journalists who have lost their work facilities, as well as the families of colleagues who have lost their lives or gone missing while performing their journalistic duties.
We therefore call upon all members of the Syndicate of Journalists of the Czech Republic: Please join the fundraiser according to your means.
The size of the contribution does not matter; even a small amount can help. It is equally important to spread the word about the fundraiser—among colleagues in newsrooms, among friends, and via social media.
Journalistic solidarity should not stop at national borders. Today, our Ukrainian colleagues are facing conditions that are hard to imagine in our own daily editorial work. Yet, they are doing exactly what we do: seeking facts, verifying information, and informing the public.
Let us show them that they are not alone.
