Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had a particularly close relationship with Prague. He first visited the city in 1787, where his music was already hugely popular. He returned the following year to conduct and perform his opera Don Giovanni, which premiered at Prague’s Estates Theatre. Mozart reportedly loved the city and its audiences, famously remarking: “My Praguers understand me.”
