New apostolic nuncio Nugent to arrive in Prague on September 3

New Apostolic Nuncio Eugene Martin Nugent will arrive in Czechia on Thursday, September 3, where he will be welcomed by Czech and Moravian bishops at Prague’s Archbishop’s Palace. Pope Leo XIV appointed the Irish diplomat as the Vatican’s representative to Czechia on May 25.

The nuncio represents the Holy See in Czechia and serves as a link between the pope and the local Catholic Church. His predecessor, Jude Thaddeus Okolo, left the post in February to become the Vatican’s ambassador to Haiti.

Nugent was born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1983. He became a bishop in 2010.
