Tomki Němec is a Czech documentary photographer best known for his work with the late dissident playwright and president Václav Havel. He accompanied Havel from 1989 to 1992, a period he has described as one of the most powerful and positive experiences of his life. In 2016, he published a major collection of photographs of Havel. His new book, Václav Havel – Tomki Němec, Post scriptum, is coming out soon.

Speaking to Czech Radio, Němec recalled how he first started photographing Havel in December 1989, about a week before he was elected president.
